What is Thai Massage?
Thai Massage is an ancient healing art that has been passed down through generations of Thai families. There are five key elements of Thai massage that promote complete healing of the mind, body, and spirit. They are:
Meditation: I incorporate meditation in my practice to help promote mind-body healing and calm. By emptying my mind I am able to focus wholly on the practice and providing you with a relaxing environment.
Yoga: This element is present throughout the massage as I move the client into a variety of poses throughout the massage as part of the Thai massage sequence. Depending on the client, I may use more or less yoga in a session.
Reflexology: Through reflexology, I target points on the body to aid in healing specific ailments. This element allows me to tailor each massage to every client's needs.
Acupressure: Placing pressure on specific points across the body allows me to help realign the client's "sen" or energy lines. Often, the tension we feel or health problems we have are the results of a misalignment of our "sen" — this practice allows me to promote whole-body healing.
Stretching: Like the yoga elements of Thai Massage, I focus on assisting the client in deep stretching, depending on the client's needs. Stretching aids in relief of muscle tension.
Thai Massage offers many benefits for your body and spirit. Beyond relieving pain and muscle tension, Thai Massage facilitates relaxation, clears your energy flow, stimulates the nervous system, increases flexibility, improves blood circulation, and rejuvenates your body.
Thai Massage Technique
Unlike many other types of massage, Thai massage is more active and seeks to achieve objectives beyond basic relaxation. Recipients are fully clothed and lay on a wide, thin mattress that allows the practitioner to move freely. Using thumbs, feet, palms, forearms, elbows, and knees, the massage practitioner applies pressure and assists in yoga stretches to stimulate energy flow and movement. Techniques include rhythmic muscle compression, assisted yoga positions, and targeted pressure along energy lines ("sen").
Everyone can benefit from Thai Massage. It is a practice focused on realigning the energy flow within your body and is particularly helpful for individuals with chronic pain or discomfort.
Herbal Massage: Thai Herbal Massage enhances a Thai Massage session. Compresses filled with traditional herbs are steamed and placed on the body before and during the massage. The compresses are placed on "sen" (energy lines) and are rolled and kneaded to release the steam. The herbs aid in detoxification, deeper relaxation, and relief of chronic tension, especially in the back and shoulder area. Cost: Add $25
